| CAREER OUTLOOK |
| The U.S. Department of Labor suggests that opportunities for aircraft mechanics and technicians should be excellent for individuals who have completed FAA approved programs. Employment in the industry is expected to increase 10% from 2006-2016, as fast as the average for all occupations during this time. Beyond that there will be a substantial need to replace the several thousand experienced technicians who retire. Job opportunities are likely to be strongest at smaller commuter and regional airlines and at FAA repair stations. As advancements in the complexity of aircrafts continue, the demand for skilled mechanics will increase. Most airline mechanics and service technicians work at major airports near large cities. Civilian mechanics employed by the U. S. Armed Forces work at military installations. Mechanics who work for aerospace manufacturing firms typically are located in California at in Washington State. Others will work for the FAA, at facilities located throughout the country. Experienced technicians with advance ratings and administrative ability can be selected for supervisory and executive positions, while others become FAA inspectors |
